Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, speaking to Albania on his first trip abroad since taking office earlier this month, said his government was working on the issue and would talk to Montenegro “when we have a clearer situation of our research”, the Washington Post” reported.
Last week Haradinaj appointed a new government commission for demarcation to review the border issue with Montenegro.
The border agreement was signed in 2015, but there was insufficient support from the parliamentary opposition in the past mandate, in which Haradinaj's party was a member, saying the agreement would imply a loss of territory.
The former opposition political parties, which are now divided between the coalition government and opposition in the new parliament, claimed that the agreement means Kosovo would lose over 8,000 hectares of land. The country's former cabinet, international experts and Western counterparts oppose that claim.
The European Union insists that Kosovo should approve the border demarcation agreement before its citizens enjoy visa-free travel within the Schengen zone./Periscopi/
