The unlocking of them and surrounding tubes is taught to have cost thousands of francs. Euro notes of this value are expected to be withdrawn from the market in 2018 for fear they facilitate illegal activities.
The European Central Bank will not wait with bank notes of this kind following an investigation undertaken by the European Commission on their use.
The destruction of the bills is not a violation in Switzerland, but local prosecutors want to reveal the circumstances of this action and whether any crime has been committed.
