Chancellor of reconciliation
Conrad Adenauer, CDU, was elected as Germany's first Chancellor in September 1949. Adenauer was 14 years in charge of the Chancellor and key figures in the years of the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany. Reconstruction of democratic and economic structures in West Germany after World War II are inseparably linked to the name Adenauer.
Economic boom Chancellor
Ludwig Erhard, The CDU, has been economy minister during the rule of Konrad Adenauer. Chancellor from 1963-1966, Erhard is considered the creator of the postwar years' <x0). In foreign policy Erhard especially paid attention to relations with the US and Israel. In addition, he began trade co-operation with Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.

Kurt Georg Kiesinger, CDU, became Chancellor in 1966 as leader of the first broad-based coalition between the CDU/ CSU and SPD. This long - term government highlighted economic and financial policy. Reform Chancellor
Gerhard Schöder, the SPD, was the first Chancellor with a majority of the SPD and the Green Party. His government was characterised by the NATO mission in Kosovo. Shortly after taking office, the government of Gerhard Schöder faced a decision to send soldiers out for the first time after World War II. Germany participated in NATO's action to bring peace to Kosovo.
Balance Chancellor
Angela Merkel, CDU, has been on the run since November 22nd, 2005, Germany's Chancellor. The physics professor is the first woman to lead Germany's government. She grew up in East Germany. During Angela Merkel's rule, Germany further empowered its position as the world's most important exporter and reduced the number of unemployment at the lowest level since the union.
