Women in the menstrual cycle are forced to live in dangerous huts, some die (Video)

Last month when 19-year-old Tulasi Salahi was bitten by a snake in western Nepal, social media began to abuse her death when international media covered her tragic death. A few weeks ago, though, when another young woman died in similar circumstances, the news was not published. [...]
A few weeks ago, though, when another young woman died in similar circumstances, the news was not published.
Both victims had been sent to a place called “chhaupadi”, a house where women in the menstrual period are sent for five days a month, the “Al Jazeera” broadcast Periscope.
Now finally good news has come. On Wednesday, parliament penalised “chhaupadi”.
Girls and women will be able to report to the police if they're made to sleep in those wet, dark huts.
But will they report to fathers, mothers, husbands, or parents?
And even if they do, will their families only pay $29 for women to sleep in these huts?
Every time I was in the far west of Nepal, where these customs exist, I have often seen women treated worse than animals.
I have met women who have traveled to India to determine their child's sex so that female babies can't breed.
As a result of these archaic customs are the menstrual huts in which locals believe tigers will attack their livestock if the women in the menstrual period live inside their homes. That's why they take women to these huts called “chhaupadi” not to fall prey to tigers.
The gods will be pissed off”, I was often told.
I've seen friends sit in the corner while their food is pushed towards them.
Ayere is told not to contact people if they defile them./Periscopi/
