The country's president, Nicolas Maduro, has written on Twitter that the people and army are defending territory and sovereignty.
In a statement published on state television, all Venezuelan citizens -- between the ages of 18 and 60 -- are called to contribute to the country's defence against “US combat threats”.
Venezuela's military exercises come in response to US President Donald Trump's threat of military action two weeks ago due to the political crisis in this country.
