US threatens Turkey if it reaches agreement with Russia

The Pentagon is concerned by what defence experts have observed as the US ally, Turkey, where the latter is close to finalising an agreement with the Russian state to buy anti-aircraft missiles, reports the newspaper “The Hill” in Washington. Agreement on the Russian system S-400 is still under way [...]

The deal for the Russian system S-400 is still under way in an endless discussion between Moscow and Ankara, but on Monday it was announced that the deal is on the verge of completion.

Criticism to the Turkish leadership is the growing breast from its Western partners due to the lack of a vision of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which has been strengthened after a referendum that has been held in April.

International observers and the Human Rights Organisation have raised their concerns about the vote, but they have also criticised Erdogan's leadership, who has condemned many of his political opponents.

Erdogan's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin has flourished recently, Periscopi broadcast “Newsweek”.

Speaking on Monday, US Defence Department spokesman Jeff Davis said Washington was “aware of reports” of the S-400 air surface missile system agreement.

Our only concern about this is the question of interaction”, Davis said at a news conference at the Pentagon.

Turkey is NATO ally. In general, it is good for the Allies to purchase devices that have interoperability between”.

The S-400 missile system is a Soviet system, but if Turkey is to buy this ship-air system, then it will be the first and only ally. NATO would have such an anti-aircraft system./Periscopi/
