A court in Tajikistan sentenced a person to prison for causing his wife to commit suicide because of arguments on her virginity.
Officials in the town of Vose have told Radio Free Europe that Zafar Pirov, 24, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Pirov's wife, Rajabby Khurshed, was killed in June, 40 days after she got married.
Khurshed had passed her virginity test, which is not mandatory but is usually required by young women in Tajikistan before they get married.
However, according to relatives, the husband has accused him of losing his virginity before marriage.
According to the wife's family, she said on her deathbed that she was under great pressure from her husband.
She drank fatal doses of vinegar on June 22nd and died in the hospital hours later.
