Sokol Zogaj has recovered from the morning attack. He's able to tell how he was brutally beaten by bars from two men at the entrance of his apartment. The entire action of these two attackers says it has lasted about two minutes. They had hit him mainly on the head, causing serious injuries.

He doubts on some tracks who might stand behind the attack but does not mention concrete names. The prison director says he has offered evidence and doubts to police investigators, from whom he expects to clear the case.

In an interview for Insider he says this attack is linked to his work as prison director.

Going to work, leaving the apartment, two strangers attacked me on the first floor. Since it's dark, I haven't been able to identify myself. They've been bleeding to me, and I've been in very serious shape.

He says he was in serious condition, but he was sent to the hospital by a person who happened to be near the scene.

I've probably been able to get out of the apartment and a businessman who worked there has taken me to QKUK”, Zogaj relates.

Zogaj, since coming to the helm of the service, says he has taken legal action to prevent irregularities, including preventing smuggling and removing corrupts.

I've come up with a task leader, I've tried to raise the security level, and you want concessions that were made earlier, I haven't tolerated them. This means that this one hasn't been converted to”, he says.

Zogaj acknowledges that the situation within Kosovo prisons is not good, since he feels that the staff is also involved in corrupt relatives and smuggling of forbidden things within prisons.

But, it says, together with colleagues, it is making efforts to combat these phenomena.

Even when I was in the second position I tried to undertake all security measures and to be equal before the law and to fight with my methods, along with my colleagues, I have shown open war on corruption that a large number of staff of people who have been smuggled into the bad things that were taken within prisons. And we got handcuffed and some of them were in prison and they never got back to work again.

Kosovo's government has condemned the physical attack on Zogaj, saying this act represents attacks on Kosovo institutions, while so far there is no report by Kosovo Police on the arrest of persons who attacked it.
