Pope Francis has called the sexual abuses of children by Catholic clerics “monstruosis” in the foreword to a Swiss book published on Wednesday, forcing action against perpetrators and bishops.
Book titled “Father, he forgave you: misused, but not broken, ”, wrote Swiss author Daniel Pittet, 58, whom the clergyman raped for the first time when he was only eight years old.
Pope Francisco, who has often repeated the promise of zero tolerance of abuses, which have criticised the victims who consider the Vatican to do much more on this issue, in the foreword of the book has called sexual abuse “absolute imperfection, a terrible sin which is in contradiction to all that Church” teaches, states the Metro newspaper.
The prediction was published Wednesday in the German newspaper Bild.
Francisescu writes that the fates of abused children remain in his soul, especially of those who have claimed their lives.
We will challenge with stronger measures against these clergymen who have betrayed their mission. This also refers to bishops and cardinals who have protected them, often in history, the pope pointed out.
Pope Francis of the foreword commends Pittet's courage about revealing his story, stressing that he has been deeply hit by his ability to forgive his abuser after 44 years. Pittette, who had experienced four years of rape and abuse and exposure to pornographic content, now lives in the Swiss town of Fribourg, is the father of six children and works as a librarian.
Information about sexual abuse among clerics began publicizing in the United States in 1984, and it exploded in 2002 when journalists in Boston had discovered that bishops had repeatedly shifted abusers to new positions instead of being expelled from the Church.
Since then, thousands of worldwide cases had surfaced that had encouraged victims to talk about their own cases. This has shaken the authority of the Church in lands like Ireland, resulting in more than two billion dollars ' worth of compensation.
