Kemal Kilicdaroglu, chief of the Republican People's Party, who is a secular party, has today spoken to thousands of people who were gathered in an open-air manifesto in the northwest province of Canakkala.
“and eight million are eager for justice”, Kilicdaroglu said, referring to the number of residents in Turkey.
The four-day congress aims to create an opportunity to challenge Erdogan before the 2019 elections.
This convention took place after Kilicdaroglu and other opposition leaders have held a 25-day march for democracy, which has surpassed 450 miles. This march ended in July.
Participants of this march had expressed anger at the government's crackdown after the failed coup in July 2016.
Nearly 50,000 people have been arrested on the basis of the state of emergency in Turkey, which was declared after the failed stamp, and another 100,000 people have been fired, including teachers, judges, soldiers and police officers.
