Many elected Kosovo Assembly deputies have entered the mayoral race.
Most MPs who claim to be elected mayors have “Determination”, followed by the PDK with three candidates, while the LDK, Initiative and Alternatives with one candidate.
Mimoza Kusari-Lila, Arba Abrashi, Sali Sali Salihu, Dritton Chaushi, Central Kastrati, Mytaher Haskuka, Sami Kurteshi, Faton Topalli, Zenun Pajaziti, Hajdar Beqa, Agim Aliu and Zafir Berisha were elected deputies but willing to give up this mandate if mayors are elected.
All say equally that their running at the local level is not fraud against voters they made MPs.
But civil society considers running deputies for mayors is a lack of political morality and a lack of responsibility for representing citizens in the Assembly.
Isuf Zeynep, from “Democracy Plus”, has declared that their candidacy is being made for political party calculations.
He thinks legal infrastructure should be regulated so that MPs don't have to be guaranteed to go back to the deputy post when they race for mayor.
