A total of 49 media have been closed by the Venezuelan government in 2017, the country's main journalists' union today declared during a manifestation organised after the censorship of two well-known local radios.
“We have recorded the closure of 49 media, most are radio, but also paid television channels”, says Marco Ruiz, secretary general of the National Workers Union in Media (SNTP).
According to Marco Ruiz, the socialist government of Nicolas Maduro uses a systematic policy of siege and asphyxia of any space that still enables a freedom of expression, exercises criticism and disagreement”
