French President Emmanuel Macron today named the regime of President Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela a dictatorship, during a speech on foreign policy, in the presence of French ambassadors gathered in Paris.
Our “Our citizens don't understand how some can so much praise the regime that is being established in Venezuela. A dictatorship that tries to survive at the cost of an unprecedented human suffering, even though the country's resources remain considerable”, Macron said.
Venezuela has been involved for several months in a deep economic, political and institutional crisis.
His president, Nicolas Maduro, with a declining popularity according to polls, is facing constant opposition protests seeking to resign.
About 130 people were killed in four months of anti-government protests.
