They consider Kosovo to be very good at accepting it. Foreign Affairs Minister Enver Hoxhaj told Radio Free Europe that membership in this security mechanism is of particular importance.
Kosovo would be more efficient in fighting terrorism, against organised crime and against trafficking in people. As a member of INTERPOL, Kosovo police would have access to the data of this organisation and would exchange more intensively and better co-operate with an organisation, which is at a global level”, Hoxhaj said.
The INTERPOL Executive Committee has decided that the Kosovo Republic's application for membership in INTERPOL, put it on the agenda of the General Assembly to be held in Beijing, China, from September 26th to September 29, 2017.
Speaking from the position of the acting minister, Enver Hoxhaj said that until the general assembly is held, the respective mechanisms of Kosovo institutions will be fully committed to the success of this issue.
“on foreign policy, which is an area where the international conflict is variable, often decisions do not depend on our work, but depend on the positions of certain states”.
“It's hard to move by parameters whether you can be optimistic or pessimistic. I think I am a realistic and optimistic that Kosovo can achieve such a goal. We have enough time to work, and over the next eight weeks, we will do a great job in order to achieve such a target”, Hoxhaj said.
Authorities in Kosovo said that Kosovo's membership in INTERPOL would greatly advance the country's capacities in fighting negative phenomena and advance and empower international citizenship and subjectivity of the Republic of Kosovo.
Minister Hoxhaj stressed that to be part of this mechanism, the criteria for which Hoxhaj said the institutions and relevant mechanisms have already met.
Hoxhaj said, too, that he does not expect on the day of the vote to have any obstacle, since, according to him, Kosovo will manage to get enough votes.
“requires the support of two-thirds of INTERPOL member states and there is no exact number. But that depends on their presence at the meeting in Beijing at the end of September”.
“We don't have any actual information that specific states are lobbiing or rejecting its accession. In our view of Kosovo's accession to INTERPOL is above all important for the security of any country, whether in the region, in Europe and the world”, Hoxhaj said.
The outgoing Kosovo government has already approved the Foreign Affairs Ministry's proposal for membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the International Police Organisation, known in February I NTERPOL. Kosovo in April 2015 applied for full-fledged membership in the international security organisation, INTERPOL.
Kosovo's Need for Membership in International Police Organisation I NTERPOL, according to security experts, is great, especially for preventing and fighting crime that exceeds state borders.
Two international security institutions, E UROPOL and INTERPOL are the most important mechanisms and one of their tasks lies in the area of international police co-operation in fighting crime, of any kind.
