High temperatures and fires that have involved several areas in Albania are not an isolated phenomenon, as the entire Western Balkan region is suffering the same fate.
Authorities in Macedonia have sounded the alarm for numerous fires that have destroyed residences and left hundreds without electricity. It is learned that Skopje has received assistance from Turkey and Bulgaria to face numerous fires in the country's forests.
According to police, one person has lost his life as a result of fires, while many others await evacuation orders if the flames approach their homes. Similar situation in Greece, where flames have approached Athens' inhabited areas, writes Top Channel.
Tens of homes were evacuated to two communities in Lagonis after fires burned down several dwellings and cars. Temperatures above 35 degrees and strong winds have made the work of firemen difficult, who have still been able to control several fires and have expressed optimism about the remaining ones.
Ready for the possibility of fires remain Croatia, Montenegro and Serbia, though these countries have so far avoided the fate of their southern neighbours. Across the Adriatic, Italy has also faced its share of fires, which so far on the Apenin Peninsula have been limited and authorities could keep them under control.
