The European Commission is reviewing “all types of measures” in response to tensions increased in Venezuela, following the arrest of two critics of President Nicolas Maduro, a spokeswoman for this commission has said.
“are continuing consultations with representatives of member states to realise a co-ordinated and appropriate response from the EU. Currently, all types of measures are being considered”, the spokeswoman has added further, provided additional details.
On Monday, the United States government has imposed sanctions on Maduro and banned American co-operation with him.
These developments have occurred several days after the controversial and violent vote for a constitutional assembly, which has been forwarded to widespread protests in which at least 10 people have been killed.
Venezuela's president, Nicholas Maduro, has formed this assembly to rewrite the constitution because of antigovernmental protests.
