German Foreign Minister said Berlin will not allow Turkey to join the European Union.
According to German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, Turkey will not be admitted to the European Union until Rexhep Tayyip Erdogan is based on his presidential palace, Press TV reported. Gabriele added that Turkey's refusal to enter the EU is not because Germany does not wish, but because of Turkey and Erdogan's withdrawal from European Union requirements.
German Foreign Minister further criticised the opposition's depression in Turkey, stressing that Ankara's government is acting beyond the law.
EU leaders criticise Erdogan for striking the Turkish opposition after the country's failed coup last year. Erdogan has also been sharply criticised for holding a referendum to expand the president's authority in Turkey.
Following the failed June 2016 coup and referendum on Turkish constitutional changes that took place this year, as well as the arrest of a Turkish-German journalist and a German human rights activist, tensions have intensified in relations between Ankara and European countries, especially in Germany.
