Carla del Ponte has resigned from her post as special investigator for Syria. The former Swiss prosecutor had become known for her work as chief prosecutor for The Hague tribunal, the war crimes in the former Yugoslavia.
In her letter of her resignation, she wrote that she would only attend the final meeting in September, writes Sf.ch.
The reason for the resignation has been that, according to her, the UN Security Council member states do not want justice”. For this reason, she can no longer be a member of this commission, which simply does nothing del Ponte has said, broadcasts albinfo.ch.
She has also added that such terrible crimes as Syria have not occurred in Rwanda or the former Yugoslavia.
She has given this statement to an activity under the Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland.
Carla del Ponte has been in the post of special UN investigator in Syria for six years.
