The Brazilian congress has voted in surrender to President Michel Temer before the corruption trial.
Opposition deputies in the lower house of Congress failed to get the necessary majority to send the case to the Supreme Court of Brazil.
Theme welcomed the vote as “clear and undisputed”.
The president is accused of taking $12m in bribes from the chief of a giant meat-making firm.
Out of 513 deputies, 263 voted against the motion to send the president to trial.
With the support that the lower house has given me, we will pass all the reforms the country needs,” President Temer said after the vote.
In a challenging speech, Mr. Temer said a secret audio recording, in which he allegedly discusses paying the secret money to a jailed politician, had to be reevaluated because he was manipulated.
