A man in Tajikistan has been accused of pushing for his wife's suicide after allegedly pressuring her to take her virginity test, to reject the results later.
Rajabby Khurshed, 18, killed herself by drinking a deadly dose of vinegar, 40 days after the wedding with 24-year-old Zafar Pirov through the collection.
Speaking of Radio Free Europe, Khursed's family, which established the union, said their daughter was told on her deathbed that she had felt under massive pressure to accept Pirov's demands for a second woman, and that she could no longer bear.
Pirov could face eight years in prison if convicted of inciting suicide.
Tests of virginity for premarriage women are common in Tajikistan, where casual sex is considered socially unacceptable.
