Turkey has announced on Tuesday the new school programme, excluding Charles Darwin's theory of evolution.
The move has raised fears of the opposition that President Recep Tayip Erdogan is destroying Turkey's secular foundations.
The teaching Union said the new school programme “is a major step in the wrong direction”.
The new “policies that forbid evolutionary learning and demand from all schools to have a room for prayer, destroy the principles of secularism and the scientific principles of education”, said Mehmet Balik, chairman of the Union of Education and Science Workers.
Education Minister Ismet Yilmaz said Darwin's theory should not be mentioned until university. It is above student level”, Yilmaz said.
The theory of evolution is rejected by both Muslim and Christian believers who believe that God created the world as it is said in the Koran and the Bible ʹ making the universe and all living things in six days.
