Syria is in the midst of a six-year civil war, with Damascus still largely under government control.
More than 300,000 Syrians have lost their lives in war, which started with anti-government protests.
The UN Agency for Refugees says that since the beginning of the conflict in 2011, around 5.5 million people have left the country, and another 6.3 million have been left displaced within the country, the Bank of Kosovo broadcasts.
