A violent 6.9 - degree earthquake in Riterri has today hit the southwestern town of Takloban, the U.S. Geological Service. The quake's epicentre has been about 50 miles [580 km] southwest of the capital, Manila, and has taken place at a depth of 41km, Reuters broadcasts.
