Serbia's strange decision is causing Kosovars trouble at the Mutioda border

The 3.5-euro fee for obtaining provatory plates -- at this point alone -- should be made with Serbia's dinars, action not applied at other border points, as at Merdar's. No one talks about this case.

A decision by Serbia's authorities -- for the border checkpoint in Mutivoda, which shares Kosovo with this neighbouring state -- is causing trouble to Kosovo citizens.

There are two days that no Kosovo citizen who has RKS license plates in the vehicle can replace them with pro-profit plates, as the 3.5-euro fee should make it dinars.

The payments were made in euros, but the decision to close a bank point on Serbian territory that functioned in exchange is bringing trouble to Kosovo citizens.

Besides having no announcement of this unilateral change, citizens are forced to return to Gracanica to turn the euro into dinars.

The only announcement that Kosovo citizens can see that the payment for provative signs becomes more dinars, not in euros, can be seen when they reach this border point since Pristina is 34km.

Members of Serbia's border police confirm this change, but refuse to declare themselves before the camera.

Meanwhile, members of the Kosovo police at this border point also confirm this change in the way they pay for Serbian plates, but they cannot do anything.

However, such a situation is not at the next border point dividing Kosovo and Serbia, in Merdar.

There, on Wednesday, plates were issued free of any trouble, while payments were made with euros.

RTK has tried to contact Ministry for Dialogue officials, but that was impossible Wednesday.

Meanwhile, based on the Brussels agreement, border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia can only be made with IDs, while for Kosovars entering Serbian vehicles, RKS plates are replaced by provatives -- action not valid for those of Serbia who enter with Serbian license plates in Kosovo.
