Iran's president, Hassan Rohan, said his country would respond if the United States adopts the new sanctions law.
The new law envisions mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran's ballistic missile programme and the headquarters doing business with them.
The law would define Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation and impose an arms embargo on Iran.
The US House of Representatives passed the law Tuesday and now it goes to the Senate for a vote.
Iranian officials say this law violates the nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers, under which Iran has limited nuclear activity in exchange for easing international sanctions.
If the enemy violates part of this agreement, we will do the same”, Iranian President Rohan said.
The new US sanctions law strikes both Russia and North Korea.
