Saturday's temperature of 35 degrees Celsius in Los Angeles, southern California, broke a 131-year record set in 1886. The National Meteorological Service said the heat wave is the result of the “high-pressure system focused on the southwest part of the desert”. Officials say that only 10 percent of a fire involving 7 thousand and 689 hectares in the northern part of Santa Barbara has been brought under control, writes the Voice of America.
High temperatures and numerous fires follow the end of a five-year drought in that country.
