Iranian photographer Ashkaan Mehryar was expelled from Egypt, where he was to attend the World Championship in Basketball (U19).
Information about his deportation has also confirmed the International Sport Journalists' Association (AIPS).
As reported in the Association's statement, Mehryar has arrived in Cairo to attend Iran's representative, who plays in Group D of the World Championship in Basketball, but was detained at the airport.
Even though my passport was valid and regular, I was interrogated in Egypt for several hours. They finally took off my phone and banished me”, said Mehraya, reports AA.
From AIPS, they say it turns out that the expulsion of Iranian photoreporter has political background, stressing that sports and politics should not be mixed up.
