The case: Medicus, the accused are declared innocent

After the Supreme Court turned the case “Medicus” into retrial in January of this year, the trial of Lutfi Dervis, his son Arbani and anesthesiologist Sokol Hajdini has again begun.

Lutfi Dervishi is accused of criminal trafficking with human beings and organised crime until Sokol Hajdini is accused of serious bodily harm.

After reading the indictment by international prosecutor Valeria Bolic, the two accused were acquitted.

“I feel absolutely innocent”, Dervishi said of both criminal acts. “Absolutely innocent” was also the statement of accused Hajdini.

The prosecution charges Dervisi that 24 people have been recruited from foreign countries and transported to remove organs in his clinic.

These operations were performed by a group of surgeons and anesthesiologists at the “Medicius” clinic, Dervis's property.

The device read by prosecutor Bolic is said to have promised the victims a certain amount of money in exchange for kidneys, but some had earned nothing, some less than they were promised.

Furthermore, prosecutor Bolic said that beginning in March 2008, 48 operations have been conducted in the clinic in question.

“have been recruited by foreign countries and transported to Kosovo for the removal of kidney organs at the Medicus clinic and for transplantation to the receiver, and always reducing the ability of the victims who donate to work permanently disfigured donor victims and leaving large and visible scars in their bodies to patients with psychological problems”, said prosecutor Bolic.

In this trial, the accused is also Lutfi Dervishi's son, Arba Dervisi, currently on the run. He is tasked with the same works as his father, while he was the clinic manager “Medicus”, reports Kalxo.com.

Even though Arba Dervis did not appear in court, his lawyer indicated under what conditions the accused could end his escape and appear at the courtroom.

I had a strong desire for him to be here in this trial, because from what was conveyed to me by members of his family, I have to orally repeat that my patron Arba Dervisi is very interested in being present as a defendant in the retrial”, said Dashi.

He sought house arrest for Arba Dervishi.

But the trial panel in charge of Franceska Fischer singled out the procedure to Arba Dervis and refused to accept the lawyer's proposal, Dush.

In 2013, Urologist Lutfi Dervishi, his son Arban, and anesthesiologist Sokol Hajdini had been sentenced by the Foundation Court in Pristina.
