A day after being released from prison, the chairman of the Skywright municipality, Sami Lushtaku, stressed to Radio Kosovo that the condemnation of former KLA soldiers is political rather than related to their guilt.
He said justice has failed in the beginning with the establishment of indictment by prosecutor EULEX, Maurizio Salustro.
The head of the Skywright municipality, Sami Lushtaku, said he did not expect his release from prison very well after his fellow fighters and other friends who were being accused the same as he did not get released with him. According to him, KLA soldiers are guilty as much as Kosovo citizens can be. He said four years lost in prison there is nothing turning them back, and that the whole process has been politically motivated with the sole intention of him and his fellow fighters leaving the political scene.
“I believe that there is no price to return, this is justice in Kosovo I have only asked for justice, arguments, facts. We respected them all, but they did not achieve it. They knew it from the beginning, without any authority or authority. But I think all of this has been politically motivated to push us away from the political scene.
Lushtaku warned that he will not stop seeking justice for his fellow fighters.
Of course I will never stop looking for justice for my fellow fighters. But not just for them! Because I've seen so much injustice not only from international courts but also from local courts. And I'm so sorry for all those who are serving the sentence! ”
Lushtaku is not sure he will continue his political career, but he says he will be near it. Within two days he warns that he will return to duty as head of the Skywright municipality.
Initially Lushtaku had been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Constitutional Court in northern Mitrovica for a murder in 1998. The Court of Appeals had changed the verdict to seven years in prison for command responsibility. The Supreme Court has cleared him of all charges.
