KEK cannot get coal even though there are large quantities of reserves in the country.
This is happening after the Kosovo government failed to make the decision to expropriate private property from which the lignite should be extracted.
KEK Director Arben Djukaj has said in Kosovo Direct Last Hour, that it is the last time institutions must act, or the country will go to energy collapses.
KEK has to take over 52 hectares of private property in order to extract untapped coal, but local residents want more money for their restoration and the Government of Kosovo has not successfully addressed this problem, even though this process had started in 2013.
“KEK, which one year has warned of such an option”, Djukaj said.
We're at the bottom of the reserves we can use since 12 months we've left time for reaching an agreement based on shifting frames, this doesn't happen”
“
We are currently in the most critical days, at the beginning of August we will come up with a statement about what citizens can expect in the coming days”.
Gjukaj has further said that Kosovo in the coming weeks will face considerable electricity shortages.
