Germany was hit by five Islamic attacks in 2016, including the December attack on the Christmas market in Berlin, where 12 people were killed, while seven other attacks failed or prevented, said Hans-Georg Maassen, president of Germany's Internal Intelligence, BfV.
“We must certainly expect further attacks by individuals or terrorist groups,” has said Maassen, calling for major evidence and in the 1,000 expressions of public concern about increased risks.
Islamic “Terrorism is the biggest challenge facing BfV and we see it as one of Germany's greatest threats to internal security,”, he has said.
The annual report of this agency for 2016 says that 24,400 Islamists are found in Germany, including some 9,700 salafi and that the number of salafi has increased to 10,100 this year.
