43 years old had been born in Denmark. Her mother is Finnish, and her Syrian father. He was a refugee and protected women's rights. Khankan had studied in Denmark where he received the Master's degree in Social Sciences of Religion and Philosophy at the University of Copenhagen.
One of the first women in the world to perform the imam's function sees itself between the two cultures, and its goal is to reconcile both cultures. It had also entered the BBC list of the world's 100 most influential women in 2016.
But Khankan is not the first imam in the world. The women who performed this function had been in China since the 19th century, and now there are also in the United States in Africa.
