It may sound strange, but scientists have created the basic protein of food through carbon dioxide and electricity.

Scientists hope that this protein - rich food will someday be used aboard space travel or to alleviate hunger in the poorest part of the world.

Dust food that was created using energy from solar panels and cheap carbon dioxide can feed and animals, thus releasing more agricultural land.

Food is created in the laboratory using a series of “protein reactors” the size of a cup of coffee, adding water, carbon dioxide, and germs to a small library.

They then exposed these elements to electrolysis, the process that divides complex substances using electricity. This process enables scholars to take a small amount of solid material that had a food profile that was compatible with basic food.

“In the future, technology can be transported, for example, to deserts or areas that suffer hunger”, says researcher Juha-Pekka Pitkanen, V's leading scientist. TT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
