Mimoza Kusari-Lila, head of the Gjakova municipality and Rasim Selmanaj, chairman of the Decani municipality, have decided to leave their positions so far held to become Kosovo Assembly deputies. And unlike them, Pristina Community head Shpend Ahmeti has decided.
Ahmeti, though in the race for deputies from the Vetevendosje Movement, it has been declared in the CEC that it will continue to hold the post of Pristina chairman, hinting that it will again be in the race for the 22 October local elections, says Indexline.
Article 9 of the Law on Local Elections in the Republic of Kosovo reportedly: The candidate of the certified political subject for the mayor's position could be certified as candidate in other elections, such as those for the Kosovo Assembly or the Communist Assembly, but would hold only an elected position. If elected as the Comune Speaker, the candidate will not have the right to hold the country in the Kosovo Assembly or the Assembly of the Community.
While besides the three leaders who have been asked to be declared by the CEC, there are seven municipal asbestists who have decided which position they will hold.
The Law on Local Self - Rule also clearly defines the mandate of the Asamblist. Article 37.3 of this law says the municipality assembly member at the same time cannot be the deputy parliament of the Republic of Kosovo. /Indesksonline/
