Road communications accidents continue to cause greater number of Kosovo deaths.
In the first six months of this year, according to Kosovo Police data, 50 people have died in road accidents.
Order authorities say that if the same period of last year is compared, there is an increase in the number of people dead as a result of traffic accidents.
Daut Hoxha, a Kosovo Police Information official, told Radio Free Europe that according to general data, notes a decline in the number of accidents with material damage, while the number of body and fatal injuries has marked growth.
“During summer months there is an increase in the number of accidents, as the number of flows from fellow countrymen coming on vacation to Kosovo” increases, Hoxha said.
According to him, during the summer season, in the function of better security management and control, especially road traffic, Kosovo police have compiled an operational police plan that has even been distributed for implementation through all departments and police areas. And there are legal provisions that will continue for all who do not adhere to traffic regulations.
“From the Kosovo Police Road Traffic Division, leaflets have been compiled and distributed with instructions and conscious messages to influence the reduction of fatal accidents, which remain a concern or sorrow for all of us at”, Hoxha points out.
Order authorities say that in the first six months of this year, traffic regulations offenders have been pronounced 183.729 fine tickets.
Citizens on the other hand believe that drivers are the ones who usually do not respect signs of communication.
Anita Mala, 23, an English-language faculty student at the University of Pristina, told Radio Free Europe that the only reason for multiple fatal accidents is the situation, according to her, the chaotic resulting from disrespecting the rules.
“If the drivers were more careful with the rules, I guess all these accidents wouldn't happen. Citizens need to know themselves because it's the life of man”, Mala said.
Meanwhile, communications expert Muhamet Krasniqi says the number of traffic accidents mainly increases during the summer season, noting that the reasons are many, but some, he says, are technical aspects of vehicles, as well as high temperatures that affect distractions.
But even the arrival of fellow countrymen, Krasniqi says, increases the number of cars, and all that, according to him, affects the number of participants in communications, which may also affect reducing road safety.
Krasniqi points to the fact that communications experts have good co-operation with the authority of the order, where they also participate in various training related to communications.
“Co-operation is continuous, not only in the summer or winter season, and these are done through Kosovo's road security forum”.
We discuss safety issues on the road, which connects to all participants on the road. But signs and communications rules remain the main issue to be respected all”, Krasniqi says.
However, authorities file appeals to all traffic participants, especially drivers, in order to be alert and to abide by rules that arise from traffic law, to stick to the speed set by traffic signs, to try to avoid driving when they are tired and sleepy, not to guide their vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and not to use telephones while driving. Such unsafe actions, according to law authorities, are contributing to increased accidents and loss of lives.
