Croatia's prime minister, Andrej Plenkovic, has said the fires that have threatened Split, the key port on the Adriatic coast, are almost under control.
Plenkovic has said after the assembly of the State Crisis Committee that most of the abandoned houses along the coast have been completely burned by the great fire caused by strong winds, the Kosovo Clan broadcasts.
The situation seems to have improved after winds have calmed down.
Meanwhile, authorities have said the fire has destroyed hundreds of hectares of pine and olive forests along Croatia's coast at the peak of the summer tourist season.
The fire triggered Monday night in Split.
