Said the American general: Army to be co-ordinated with NATO

The president of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, has hosted NATO's Supreme Commander for Europe, General Curtis Scaparrotti, accompanied by KFOR commander Major General Giovanni Fung.

President Thaci has thanked General Scaparrotti for the support NATO has given Kosovo in ensuring peace in Kosovo and the region.

The president has stressed that role NATO in Kosovo has been determining not only to preserve stability and boost security but also to co-operation among all communities in Kosovo.

Your “Role in Kosovo, as well as in the region, is irreplaceable. We will always be grateful for this back-up”, the president stressed.

President Thaci has informed him of the political and security situation in Kosovo. According to him, Kosovo has successfully completed the election process, which has been free, fair and democratic.

“We are currently in the process of creating Kosovo institutions, which will be multiethnic and with clear Euro-Atlantic orientation”, President Thaci has said.

Speaking of co-operation with the countries of the region, President Thaci has welcomed Montenegro's membership in NATO, hoping that the same path will be followed by other states, thus contributing to lasting peace in the region.

The Supreme Commander, on the other hand, NATO for Europe, General Curtis Scaparotti has said NATO is committed to staying in Kosovo to ensure peace and stability for the entire region.

The president has stressed that Kosovo is working to complete the process of transforming the KSF into the Kosovo Army. This will happen in full co-ordination with you and with the involvement of all institutions and communities in Kosovo”, he has added.

He has said Kosovo will also continue dialogue on normalising relations with Serbia and will work for regional co-operation and for good neighbourly relations.
