Speaking for “TASS” ahead of his trip to Moscow, the Serbian president found that his country plans to buy at least six Russian helicopters and air missile defence systems.
Serbia is on the European road, but the difference between Serbia and other countries in the region is that Serbia does not want to join NATO. Ten days ago I was in Brussels, at NATO headquarters, and I told 29 NATO leaders that Serbia has no intention of joining NATO, Serbia will maintain its military neutrality, which is Serbia's policy and will continue to be like this,” said Vuciq, reports “b92”, Periscopi broadcast. ” We have received six MiG-29 Russian combat aircraft, which are currently being modernised”, he continued and added:
“We expect them to be in full operational readiness within months. We have other applications: we want to buy weapons, we want to buy at least six military transport helicopters and air protection systems”.
Serbia is an independent country, a neutral military country, so we must be powerful military to protect our land. I hope to discuss this and many other topics with Vladimir Putin,” said Vuciq.
“TASS” noted that the Serbian president will be in Moscow on 18 December-20 December, where he will meet with President Vladimir Putin.
Ties with Russia are Serbia's priority for the future, the Serbian president said.
“The people here (in Serbia) respect and love Russia, but we are a small country and only thanks to President Putin's leadership, attention has been paid to Serbia”, Vuciq said.
For us in Serbia, a meeting with the president of the Russian Federation is always a special event, a historic moment. I hope to discuss global issues at our meeting and thank the Russian Federation once again for its support of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia. These are not empty words, but true gratitude”, he added.. /Periscopi/
