Russia could attack underwater internet cables

The British Army chief has said Russia poses a major threat to NATO countries, in terms of underwater communications cables, which are very important for international trade and the internet.
The chief of defence staff, Stuart Peach, has said Britain and NATO have made the defence of communications lines a priority, as Russia is likely to attack them.
Peach has said the measures were taken in response to <x0 threat that represents Russian Navy modernisation”.
He has said that in the event of any such problem, catastrophicly inter-communicable trade and internet routes would be cut off.
Peach has said Russian ships have been seen very close to cables carrying communications between Europe and the United States.
