Parents treat children with syrup coughing instead of “conventional treatment” with honey and lemons, doctors say about Daily Mirror.
Dr. Oliver Bevington, pediatrics, says drugs bought at the pharmacy can be harmful, as they are toxic when taken in large doses.
He says that some include paracetamol, and parents may unconsciously pass on to their children with this drug.
Paddyr adds that there is no evidence that cough drugs work and whether “do better or worse”.
We now enter the weightiest period of the year in hospitals, and we see hundreds of children a day with respiratory symptoms, including coughs, fevers and temperatures. Most of these are caused by viral infections that can be treated very well without antibiotics and rest, fluids and some paracetamol or ibuprofen, while many parents worry about symptoms and may damage their child with cough syrup”, says Dr. Bevington.
It advises parents to use the traditional way with honey and lemon. My advice for parents is to use the old honey method with lemons, calm down, lots of fluids and paracetamols or ibuprofen by instructions, and if symptoms last more than a few days then you should consult your doctor or pharmacist”, he says.
