The world's smallest inhabited island has room for only one house and one tree.
Part of a 1864 island archipelag in the Gulf of Alexandria that divides the state of New York with Ontario on the St. Lawrence, the island has an area of only 306 square feet [306 sq m], half the island's surface holding the Guines record Bishop Rock.
In 1950 the Siselands family bought the island and built a wooden house and a tree there, leaving no room for anything else. But even though the family in question had thought about finding a place to rest, the island soon became quite attractive to tourists who sailed into the river.
