Rahul Gandhi is the descendant of India's most famous political dynasty, the Nehru-Gandhi family. His father, Rajiv, served as prime minister from 1984 to 1988, and his mother, Sonia, spent 19 years at the helm of the Indian National Congress, resigning to release leadership position of her son, Rahul Gandhi.
His father's grandmother, India Gandhi, preceded her son, serving as India's first and only prime minister, reports “Sputnik International” Transmission Periscope. His grandfather Yawaharlal Nehru was India's first prime minister, and his job of reforming India from a British colony to a sovereign republic made him a legendary figure in Indian politics.
The party was founded by Mohandas Gandhi and dominated until the 1990s, when corruption scandals and a poor economy slowly reduced their support.
Part of this decline is due to the establishment of the right-wing Hindu nationalist party Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party, led by the charismatic prime minister of India Narendra Modi.
Fashion enjoys high popularity in the country and a high international profile based on its promises of modernising and empowering India. A survey of the “pe Research Centre” earlier in 2017 set up sympathies to Modit at 88 per cent dealt with 58 per cent.
BJP currently controls 274 out of 545 countries, the most powerful of India's two legislative houses. The INC, the main opposition party, is the second with 46 seats.
The name of the Gandhi-Nehru dynasty carries a huge weight in India, but they are also known for something else: they are being killed. Both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were killed - the first in 1984, the latter in 1991. Rahul was a teenager during the first incident, and 21 years were when the assassination took place for Rajiv Gandhi.
