The Cause of the Decade

Visa liberalisation and EU integration, the establishment of the Kosovo Army, finalisation of dialogue with Serbia are the main promises Kosovo politicians have been pledging to resolve. But until the realization of these promises that citizens were deceived into, a long and long road awaits the country....
It has been nearly a decade since the visa-free pledges were launched (2010), but the same issue has remained unresolved today, though nearly eight years have passed. Kosovo politicians over the past decade, except liberalisation, also promised Kosovo's EU integration, military creation, as well as finalisation of the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia. Despite that, none of these issues are expected to have a quick solution. So consider experts in these areas, who say institutions should work harder in this direction. Integration and liberalisation experts remain sceptical whether these two processes will be completed, even though this is still being promised on the part of the government today. Even with regard to liberalisation, the main condition (demarketation) has not yet been resolved, though it has been nearly three years since it was signed. On the other hand, experts on military issues estimate that the army will not take place for another five years. Nevertheless, government officials say they are working towards completing these issues. As for dialogue with Serbia (started in 2011) connoisseurs of this process say it has not met citizens' expectations at all.
The Road, Hard Toward Liberalization
Visa liberalisation is not the process that can be easily finalised. Rather, the key problem in this process is presented by the five EU states, which have not yet recognised Kosovo's independence. So says European law professor Avni Mazrek, who in a conversation about “Zerin”, explains in all how procedures go to the visa removal. When we talk about visa liberalisation, it is difficult to determine when a decision can be made for Kosovo visa liberalisation when it is known that this decision is made at the Council of the European Union, in the configuration of interior ministers, respectively. This decision is made according to the system of qualified majority”, it has declared “Zrin”.
