Speaking of the public radio of “Kan Bet”, Hotovly said the 10 states are following the lead of President Guatemalan Jimmy Morales, who said Sunday that his country's embassy would be moved to Jerusalem.
The Central American nation, along with six other states, voted with the United States and Israel, unlike the rest of the UN General Assembly, which last week voted 128-9 to condemn the US decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Six others were Honduras, the Marshall Islands, Minnesota, Nauru, Palau, and Togo, reports “RT” Transmission Periscope.
The Philippines, the Czech Republic and Romania have abstained from the UN vote last week, but have not ruled out the possibility of joining Guatemala and the United States, with Czech President Milos Zaman.
But European Union foreign policy chief Federica Moghrini later said that Foreign Minister Cek had promised him not to transfer their ambassadors to Jerusalem, which the EU considers the capital of a future Palestinian state.
Earlier Monday, Netanyahu thanked Morales in a speech to the Israeli parliament. I spoke yesterday to my friend Guatemalan president and thanked him for his support for us through his UN vote,” he said.
However, Guatemala's decision was criticised by Jordan's Foreign Minister, Ayman Safad, as “a absurd provocation and violation of international law”. Despite repeated warnings from global and regional authorities, including Russia, US President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel on December 6th and announced that his country's embassy would be moved by Tel Aviv, prompting a widespread sentence.
After the announcement, massive anti-Israel and anti-American protests erupted throughout the Muslim world. The most intense clashes took place in Jerusalem, the West Coast, and Gaza, while Palestinians gathered in anger against the decision and Hamas inciting a new uprising.
