Hurricane Irma was the most popular word for 2017 in both the United States and the global level, according to some Google research.
Hurricane Irma touched the coast of Florida, on the islands of Key West, being classified as a fourth-degree storm, and being named one of the most extreme weather events in the United States this year.
Matt Lauer, the NBC icon who was fired after charges of sexual harassment, was the second most clicked event according to Google research.
Tom Petty, the rock icon that died this year, was the third, followed by Super Bowl.
The sex harassment scandal that started in Hollywood and spread very quickly also caused many clicks on Google this year.
Three of the five most popular people in 2017 faced charges and they were: Lauer, Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey.
Last summer's solar eclipse also attracted interest among researchers. It was the seventh most popular search overall.
