The United States is preparing for a wave of cyberattacks expected to target the Muslim elections in 2018.
Meanwhile, some officials warned that this is only the beginning of a deeper and wider threat.
Intelligence and security officials, as well as other experts, speaking on condition of anonymity, say that what started as a Russian attempt to influence the American presidential election of 2016 has evolved further.
Officials and experts expect the next round of Russian cyber efforts to be more sophisticated and wider. Likely, they say, that the new wave will be a combination of social media disinformation campaigns with possible attacks on targets that could be hit more easily.
For the short term, many experts expect the shocks to match the US election.
