Statistics of Kosovo killings present disturbing figures. For 18 years in Kosovo, between 1999 and 2017 respectively, 1521 murders of various motives have occurred.
For this year, 23 murders have been recorded between January and this month (November).
Until 2015, police registered 25 murders, and last year 26, this year so far there are 23.
Of these cases, according to police, 17 of them have been discovered.
There were 26 cases of homicide in 2016. During this year (2017) to this period, there have been 23 cases of murder, out of which 17 have been discovered”, told of Indexline, police media officials.
Until 2014, the homicide rate has been at 10, now that number has nearly tripled.
Police data shows that between 1999 and 2014, the largest number of murders occurred in Pristina and Pec.
Kosovo Police for Indexline have clarified that these murders are being caused for various reasons, adding that these cases are very disturbing. The cases of murder in general are very disturbing and caused by various motives, since decisions related to such cases and the definition of punishments is the competence of justice organs. Several cases of murder are well known, while some of the cases are under investigation, and police in co-operation with the Prosecution treat them with great seriousness”, reportedly in the PK's response.
Police further point out that as a single actor, it is a problem to deal with these cases, so it requires involvement of other decision-makers.
“In terms of prevention other than police should play their role, and other actors who have institutional and social obligations in the function of awareness or sensibility of society regarding the consequences that may result from illegal actions in general” are said to be responding. Police stress that they have taken action to prevent them either through police operations for the seizure of illegal weapons and different campaigns of awareness of all illegal activities.
