“We will be friends, partners and long-term allies”, Trump said at the Asia-Peace Economic Co-operation Summit (APEC), which is being held in the Vietnamese city of Dang.
Trump praised the economic progress done in what he called the region “Indo-Pacifi” like “nothing less than wonderful”.
I'm here to offer renewed friendships with America,” said Trump.
“Indo-Pacic” has been interpreted as an indication of Trump's desire to emphasize India's importance in the region, reports “Deutsche Welle”, Periscopi broadcast.
But he added that the United States would insist on future “commercial arrangements based on “justice and reciprocity”, saying his country had often come out badly in the past.
He demanded that private companies take the lead in planning such agreements, criticising governments for excessive intervention, such as currency manipulation.

All 11 other potential partners are trying to save what remains of the agreement on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Vietnam.
Japanese Economy Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said late Thursday that an agreement in principle was made to move forward without the US, but his words were later rejected by Canada's Foreign Trade Minister Francois-Phillippe Champne.
The talks, which emerged until Friday morning, had to continue in the afternoon.
The APEC brings together leaders of governments from around the Pacific to discuss economic issues. In recent years, security has also been on the agenda in the functioning of the current increase in international terrorism.
