Carrying signs reading “not for slavery in Libya”, demonstrators gathered in front of the Libyan Embassy on Saturday afternoon before marching towards Champs-Elysees, where they stopped from the French police cords.
Allow our brothers”, “Let's release Africa”, “We're black, we're human! The” demonstrators sang.
The clashes erupted as police began to disperse the protest. Some activists began throwing stones at the police, who responded with tear gas.
A violent crew was in the country to film, as activists tried to break up metal barriers set up by police.
One person was arrested after a stir, reports “AFP” Police say the protest was illegal, adding that “no damage” resulted from the clashes.
Earlier this week, the Libyan government launched an investigation into slave auctions operating in the country, including areas controlled by the UN government after CNN showed images of migrants sold in a country outside Tripoli.
CNN claims in the report that men have a price of less than $400, and that auctions are being held in many countries across Libya every month.
Libya has become the last stop on Europe's road to war-free migrants, persecution and poverty in their countries, with the ongoing political chaos allowing smugglers to grow in the country, destroyed by civil war.. /Periscopi/
