The number of young people diagnosed with HIV in Europe has reached the highest level in 2016 since records started.
A joint report by the World Health Organization and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control says 160,000 people have been affected by the virus causing AIDS last year.
Those diagnosed have been registered in 53 countries, and about 80 per cent of them are located in Eastern Europe.
This is the largest number of cases registered in a year. If this trend continues, we will not be able to reach the target of completing the HIV epidemic by 2030”, said Zsuzsanna Jakab, regional director for Europe near the World Health Organisation.
